Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is a hypersensitive or allergic response to a type of fungus called Aspergillus fumigatus. Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is rare in the general population because Aspergillus fumigatus fungus is easily found in soil. However, individuals with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis have an immune system that overreacts to the aspergillus fumigatus antigens when they enter their airways and lungs. Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis patients experience permanent damage to the lungs and damage to the airways. Individuals affected by forms of asthma, cystic fibrosis, urticaria, sinusitis, atopic dermatitis, and allergic rhinitis.
