Masago, which can be found in the North Atlantic, North Pacific and Arctic oceans throughout the year, feed on plankton. They are prey for whales, seals, seabirds, and squid. These fish breed on sandy beaches and have a high mortality rate. Male masago growing up to eight inches in length and females can grow up to ten inches in length, and both are olive colored with ridges on their bodies. They migrate in the winter and early spring off the coast of Norway and Russia to spawn and when it is time to feed they travel north and northeastward. These fish are used for commercial use by fisheries in huge quantities and create millions in income because of its flavor.
