Multiple bacteria can cause this condition. They include Aeromonas hydrophilia, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Clostridium, and Klebsiella. According to public health officials, the most common bacteria causing necrotizing fasciitis is group A Streptococcus.
