Types Of Restrictive Lung Diseases
Extrinsic Restrictive Lung Diseases

Extrinsic restrictive lung diseases are considered one of the two main categories of restrictive lung diseases. These are usually caused by certain complications with structures or tissues located outside the lungs. Some of the external factors that can lead to the development of these diseases include damaged nerves, weakened muscles, or stiff tissues in the chest wall. An array of different conditions and diseases are considered extrinsic restrictive lung diseases, the primary of which include malignant tumors, heart failure, obesity, scoliosis, muscular dystrophy, and multiple sclerosis. Many of these conditions are considered to be neurological conditions that occur within the brain, spine, or surrounding nerves.
