Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Also called ultrasound technicians, diagnostic medical sonographers use special machines that produce high-frequency sound waves to create visual images of various body tissues. This process can be extremely helpful in diagnosing and monitoring a wide array of conditions including pregnancies, heart conditions, and some cancers. Common places of employment for these experts include public and private hospitals, specialty clinics, private practices, diagnostic laboratories, and imaging clinics. Since diagnostic medical sonographers are required to work directly with patients, exemplary communications skills and a great bedside manner are essential. Individuals interested in this career path will need to obtain a minimum of an associate degree in medical sonography.
