Audiologists, often referred to as ear or hearing specialists, can work independently in their own practices, or they can be employed by medical facilities such as public and private hospitals, family health audiology centers, hearing clinics, and audiology centers. However, some of these professionals are also employed by a variety of public and private schools as well.

The main responsibilities of ear specialists are to diagnose and treat a variety of health issues pertaining to the ears. This can include such things as hearing loss, inner ear infections, or trauma to the inner ear. A doctoral degree in audiology is necessary to begin a career as a hearing specialist.
